The independent Core World of Anaxes, in the Axum system, has long been known as the Defender of the Core. Its sister world of Axum is the capital of Azure sector.
Anaxes was at one time the entrance to the Core Worlds along a now-defunct galactic hyperlane, the Gordian Reach. Historically, its location has made it a natural defensive point from the threats presented by the nearby areas beyond the Colonies, which have at times included the Hapans, the Hutts, and the Sith Empire.
This long martial tradition left Anaxes with strong defenses, and it served the Empire as a major military base until the first Imperial civil war. Many ships composed of crews that had no desire to fight their compatriots or continue the galactic bloodletting found a haven here, and as a result, the system defense fleet boasts numerous Star Destroyers of both the Imperial and Victory classes, along with hundreds of support ships and thousands of starfighters.
WotC tried to place Anaxes on the Perlemian Trade Route, but they understand neither that route nor the Slice. Instead, it will lie on the Hydian Way Trade Route, in between the Ringali Shell and Kuat. These Core Worlds sectors and systems are adjacent:
With the system located on the Hydian Way, both planets maintain strong trade and business sectors, and their economies are thriving. The Martial Cross trade route also passes through Anaxes, traveling from Coruscant, and continues a short way out into the Colonies region of the Gordian Reach. This route, now thousands of years old, was once a deployment path during the Republic's war with the Sith. On this route, at the edge of the Azure sector, is the planet Lolnar, headquarters of PC-controlled corporation Tinakin Industries.

Located on the edge of the Axum System, the Anaxes Station starport complex is the main access point for ships traveling along the Hydian Way or the Martial Cross that wish to simply bypass the system. All traffic is interdicted here and must pass through Axum System customs to proceed along either route. The station is a unique facility, a cross between a massive resupply base and a repair and servicing facility, with numerous berths and docking hardpoints for ships of almost any size. Obviously, the station is well protected by the local defense fleet, and several Star Destroyers rumble in patrols nearby at all times. In addition, a dozen squadrons of starfighters are based off the station, along with close to one hundred security and customs vessels.
