Tatooine

Locations

Anchorhead
Several hundred kilometers southwest of Mos Eisley, this farming community has grown to about 1,400 residents in recent years.  The town itself has grown from only a small cluster of buildings to a genuine small settlement, and it serves a large community of moisture farmers as a local commercial hub.  It is effectively cut off from Mos Eisley by the Jundland Wastes.  The Anchorhead area has remained fairly safe;  Prefect Elera deployed the Militia as soon as the Empire pulled out, and unrest is believed to have been kept to a minimum.

Arnthout
A small farming community south of Bestine, with a population of about 600.  The local administrator is Prefect Werdon.

Bestine
The official capital and administrative center of Tatooine, Bestine is a small town about 200 kilometers west-northwest of Mos Eisley.  Home to well over a thousand residents, Bestine contains Tatooine's only museum, and little else, with no real commercial activity beyond basic services.  Civil unrest following the Empire's departure was minimal, and the presence of an additional battalion of troops at the Militia headquarters (members of the "Nomad" battalion, the Militia's paramilitary attack force) allowed Prefect Dodd to immediately clamp down on any instances of unrest.

The Dune Sea
A vast desert expanse, stretching for thousands of kilometers, known for unbearably hot days and frigid nights.  The Eastern Dune Sea borders on the Jundland Wastes.

Jabba's Palace
Home to several varied groups in the intervening years since the collapse of Jabba's organization, the palace, isolated far out in the Dune Sea was mostly recently in use as a remote meeting ground by one of Mos Eisley's native criminal gangs.  Prefect Zhaal thus determined to raid the palace with elements of three Militia battalions, clearing out the criminals and temporarily quarantining the area.  With the need for Militia troops to return to their duties, Zhaal chose to hire on a private security unit to maintain the palace's quarantine, a move opposed by Prefect Gdann but confirmed by the Prefectural Council.

The Jundland Wastes
A rough, dry canyon, mountain, and mesa area, known to be nearly impassable except for the Arnthout Pass.  The area is known to be populated by Sand People, Krayt Dragons, and many other dangerous creatures.  The area runs along the Eastern Dune Sea, with a major branch cutting off Mos Eisley and Anchorhead.

Mos Eisley
Tatooine's major center of commerce, Mos Eisley sits on the eastern edge of the Jundland Wastes about 200 kilometers from Bestine township.  There are numerous street gangs and at least one private militia present in Mos Eisley, and the Tatooine Militia has had little success in stopping criminal activity recently.  Prefect Zhaal claims this is because his rival, Prefect Gdann, is sabotaging the Militia's efforts by supporting several of the gangs and factionalizing the Militia, although Gdann denies this charge.  The streets of Mos Eisley outside of the city center are largely unsafe, and even the central area can be dangerous after dark.  There are believed to be 70,000-80,000 beings in Mos Eisley at any given time.

Mos Espa
Once a significant settlement, Mos Espa is now a city in decline.  Mos Espa's starport traffic, already a trickle compared to Mos Eisley's, dried up when the local Governor ordered offworld traffic routed through the Imperial stronghold in the world's major spaceport.  As a result, neither legitimate commerce nor Hutt criminal activities lingered, and the city is all but a ghost town these days, with fewer than a thousand inhabitants, although it still services the farming communities along the southern reaches of the Jundland Wastes.  Prefect Gdann responded quickly and severely to the few outbreaks of lawlessness following the Empire's departure and stopped most of the local unrest before it could really start, so the streets are more peaceful than in many other settlements.  Estimates suggest fewer than a thousand people remain in the town.

Motesta
A small farming hamlet in Arnthout Pass, about 50 kilometers north-northwest of Anchorhead.  About 400 people live inside the town's municipal boundaries.  The local administrator is Prefect Chandler.

The Oasis
A Dim-U monastery.  The monks of the Dim-U religion contemplate and worship the bantha here.  They gladly take in travelers out of the desert, housing and feeding them for a night free of charge.  The Tatooine Militia has offered to station security officers at the monastery, but the monks have declined their offers, and there have been no reports of violence or other criminal activities here.  Stays of more than a night may be subject to the abbot's approval and may require a "donation" for room and board.  The monastery is run by Abbot Dylan.

Tosche Station
A power, water, and refueling depot about three kilometers due south of Anchorhead.  Formerly owned by the Tosche family, the station was bought out by Jai'den, a prominent local businessman, several years ago.  Jai'den has turned the station into a significant commercial site in its own right, servicing many of the outlying communities south of Anchorhead.  With both a company of Militia troops and Jai'den's private security force operating in the area, the station is generally safe -- as long as one doesn't get mixed up with the Krayt Skull gang, a collection of local swoop bikers.  About 200 people live within the confines of the newly demarcated township limits of Toshe Station.

Tusken Canyon
Location of Fort Tusken, one of Tatooine's early settlements, this area is far along the northern reaches of the Jundland Wastes.  It was the site of the first conflict between Human settlers and the Sand People.  It has been abandoned for several decades, although there are rumors in Bestine that a detachment of Nomad Battalion officers were recently dispatched there.
