MEGA Fighting Competition Rules

There are five kinds of MEGA Fighting competitions:

  1. Challenge match.  This format pits two gladiators against each other in a hand-to-hand battle.  Although death is common, the fight is only required to proceed until one gladiator is unconscious or otherwise unable to continue fighting.
  2. Tournament.  This format allows all comers to compete for the title of tournament champion.  Individual matches within the tournament function identically to challenge matches.

  3. Hardcore Tournament.  This format is about survival.  The gladiator who wins the first match fights again until defeated.  The only way to defeat an opponent is with his or her death.  The battle continues until only one gladiator remains.  Hardcore matches are not subject to the rules imposed on challenge matches.
  4. Battle Royale.  This format puts multiple gladiators in the pit at once, but is otherwise similar to challenge matches.
  5. Team Tournament.  This format, similar to the Battle Royale, requires teams of four gladiators.  After four preliminary matches, each featuring a single gladiator per team and in which the last four gladiators standing advance, remaining team members join together and fight the final battle together.  The last team standing wins.

Rumors suggest MEGA Fighting's management has considered adding a format including use of weapons, but if so, it will either be added to the lineup later or was rejected.

The following rules are in effect during all fights, except Hardcore matches.  Failing to follow one of these rules may result in several punishments, up to summary execution.

  1. No weapons of any sort are permitted in fights.  This rule does not apply to species-specific weapons that are part of a being's body, such as claws, fangs, or massive pincers, but does apply to non-native weapons that are attached to a being, such as cybernetic implants.
  2. Fighting continues without pause until a gladiator is unconscious, dead, or otherwise incapacitated.  Yielding is not permitted.
  3. Once a gladiator is unconscious, dead, or otherwise incapacitated, his or her opponent is not permitted to make any further attacks.
  4. Use of the Force is not permitted;  if detected, it will automatically result in summary execution.

Only one rule exists in Hardcore matches:  Live or Die.

While character death will not happen frequently outside of Hardcore matches, it is nevertheless a very real option during a MEGA Fight.  However, only the Hardcore format requires that a character who is killed be truly dead.  During all other formats, the following options are available to characters who suffer death:

  1. A character who the dice say dies from the lingering effects of a mortal wound can elect to remain alive;  this character will at the very least have some form of permanent scar or injury, possibly sufficient to permanently lower an attribute and related skills by 1D, at the Gamemaster's discretion.  Note that such a scenario is unlikely, as defeated gladiators receive medical treatment immediately, but the possibility exists during a Battle Royale or Team Tournament, in which treatment is not available until the match is over.
  2. A character who is killed outright can also choose to remain alive;  this character will have extensive permanent damage and will suffer the permanent loss of at least 1D from at least one attribute and related skills, at the Gamemaster's discretion.
  3. A player may choose to accept defeat gracefully and allow his or her character to die <G>.

Character Points are awarded to any Player Character that takes part in a MEGA Fighting match, up to a maximum of five points per match, per the following schedule:

  1. Taking part in a match grants an automatic award of one Character Point.
  2. Taking part in a match against another Player Character grants an automatic second Character Point.
  3. Winning a match grants an additional Character Point.
  4. Accurately roleplaying a character's choice of combat maneuvers with respect to the character's fighting style is worth an additional Character Point.
  5. Additional roleplaying of a character, above and beyond what is usual or expected, may be worth one final additional Character Point.

NPCs are automatically awarded one Character Point for a loss and three Character Points for a win;  they also gain an additional Character Point when fighting a Player Character.
