Despite the partial collapse of law and order, Tatooine is full of lucrative opportunities for commerce, mercenary work, smuggling, illicit enterprises, and many other activities. The list below contains only suggested opportunities; many others exist, and the list is growing all the time.
Law Enforcement, Mercenaries, and Bounty Hunters
The Prefectural Council is struggling to keep itself in power, and the
Tatooine Militia is spread thin and overworked. As a result, gangs and
criminal ventures control much of the major cities, and the Prefects have been
hard-pressed to provide their citizens any modicum of safety. Plus, the
threat from the Sand People is constant, if minimal, and with the Militia so
engaged with crime and gangs, some settlements feel themselves to be poorly
protected. Bounty
hunters in search of a payoff, and those searching for law
enforcement and mercenary work, can easily find the contracts to meet their needs
in this environment.
Locals
With so much happening on Tatooine right now, life has gotten harder for the
locals -- the moisture and agro farmers, the tradesbeings, the merchants, and
everyone else that's only trying to get by. There is plenty of room for
trying to navigate the local campaign as one of Tatooine's average citizens;
all that's needed is the willingness to get involved. Some tie-ins for
this opportunity could be law enforcement, above, or political activism, below,
although Tatooine's locals come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and local
characters can easily involve themselves in any of the myriad groups and
activities on the planet.
Martial Artists, Shockboxers, and Other Professional Fighters
MEGA Fighting, the Mos Eisley Gladiator League, is the new word on the
street. According to the rumors, they're taking anybody who can walk into
a pit (or be thrown into one, if a few of the stories are to be believed). Challenge matches will occur regularly, with occasional
tournaments. The league will also offer a "Hardcore" division -- which
will feature nothing but death matches. See how long a Hardcore Champion
can keep a title, and win a tidy profit betting on the matches! If the
rumors are right, one can obtain a ticket to an event, or volunteer to
fight, by asking for Shira at the Dockside Cafe. OOC information on MEGA
Fighting can be found here.
Organized Crime
Tatooine is host to several criminal operations and territorial gangs.
The Hutt Alliance is rumored to still have interests on Tatooine, although most of the
Hutt network collapsed upon the death of Jabba, with several groups splintering
into independent operations. In addition, criminal organizations that had
previously been shut out tried to move in after Jabba, and a few homegrown
efforts have stood the test of the last nine years. Most settlements on
Tatooine host some form of criminal endeavor, and with the breakdown in central
authority, business is booming for these operations.
Political Activists
Tatooine is in transition; the Prefects are trying to navigate the
chaos, but there are many interests and ideologies that seek primacy in the
world's post-Imperial era. There are countless opportunities to affect any
part of the political spectrum, for better or for worse, on many levels.
Tramp Freighters and Smugglers
Due to the loss of Imperial supply lines, Tatooine's government and many
markets are in need of suppliers; while Tatooine sees regular transport
traffic, its infrastructure is taxed and needs additional support. A
freighter can find governmental and commercial contracts fairly easily at this
time. In addition, with so many competing criminal groups and territorial
gangs and a thriving black market influenced by the world's instability, demand for smuggled goods
of all sorts is high.
