Character Templates
Templates for Force users and rogue Jedi can be found here. These templates contain the Attribute codes, lists of Skills (to increase at character creation or to keep as a wish list for later) and equipment suggested for that profession. Sample backgrounds are also given. Experienced players may wish to customize their own Attribute codes and Skills to fit their character's unique background.
Character Approvals
These rules are in addition to the rules in the Rogues character approval Rogues character approval section. Please refer to those before beginning creation on your Force-user character.
There are three Force skills:
Control - Control is your character's ability to control her own body. A character with control can access her own internal well of Force energy, learning harmony with and mastery over the functions of her own body.
Sense - Sense teaches a character to sense the Force in other things beyond her own body. The character learns to feel the bonds that connect all living things and gains the ability to understand how all things are interconnected. Sense governs powers such as detecting danger and learning information about the world around the Jedi.
Alter - A character with Alter learns how to change the distribution and nature of the Force. Characters who have mastered alter can move physical objects with their minds, can help others control their own Force, or can manipulate the Force in the bodies of others. This power can be used to change the perceptions of others and make them come to incorrect conclusions.
Note: You do not need to have Force Skills at creation. They can be obtained later in the game through Force training. Force training will be discussed later in the tutorial. To begin with a Force Skill at creation, either Control, Sense, or Alter or a combination thereof, the first 1D in that Skill must come from an Attribute.
If you're unsure of what an Attribute is, please refer to the Rogues Character Creation Tutorial before you get too confused.
As an example, Humans have 18D in Attributes. If you wish for your character to have Control at creation, then you will take 1D from your 18D and apply it to Control. If you wish for all three Skills at creation, you would take 3D from your 18D for a total of 15D in Attributes, and have Control 1D, Sense 1D, and Alter 1D.
Note: Bonus Dice may not be used to obtain your first 1D in a Force Skill. Bonus Dice may only be used for regular skills or for raising Force Skills you've already used the 1D in Attributes in.
Force Powers:
Only WEG powers are allowed, and these may not include Sith powers. Dark side powers, yes, Sith powers, no. When in doubt, check with your BGM. A list of Force Powers with descriptions can be found at the Jedi Academy website. Dark side powers can be found at the Dark Jedi website. Again, Sith powers from the Tales of the Jedi Companion are not available.
In SWI, Powers are approved at creation as follows:
For every 1D in a Force Skill you receive 1 Force Power to put in that respective Skill, regardless of how many Skills are required for a power to be used. These may not be broken down into pips.
Example: Control 2D, Sense 2D, Alter 2D
This means you start with 6 powers, 1 for every D. Two powers which use Control, two which use Sense, and two which use Alter. These starting powers can be ones that use more than one Force skill.
Though you may choose whatever powers you'd like, it is mandatory that some of these powers be explained in your character's background. For instance, choosing Lightsaber Combat though your character has never seen let alone used a lightsaber, is not allowed.
You must also have the prerequisite powers for a power you choose to have. This is nonnegotiable.
Using Force Powers:
Many of these powers use a combination of the three Force Skills. Calling upon each Force Skill is a separate action. The Force-user may roll each skill in consecutive rounds at no penalty, or may attempt to fully activate the power in one round, incurring normal multiple action penalties.
Some powers are inherently evil and automatically cause a character to receive a Dark Side Point whenever they are used. (Of course, characters receive a DSP if any powers are used for evil.)
When a character with Dark Side Points uses a Force Skill, her skill roll gets a bonus of 1D per DSP. Characters who accept this bonus are particularly susceptible to its temptations and must be sure to act with the purest intent or they will receive more DSPs and risk going over to the dark side.
A character may refuse this bonus, but the difficulties of all Force powers should be increased by at least one difficulty level to reflect the intense concentration the Character must have to avoid the dark side's temptations.
A character that has been consumed by the dark side no longer receives this bonus.
Force Points:
Your Force sensitive Character starts with two Force Points.
Information for Character Approval:
- A character who is created with significant Force Skills must have had a teacher in his background.
- Keep in mind these are beginning characters. While you're more than welcome to increase your Force Skills a bit with bonus dice, doing so sacrifices your character's other abilities.
- Bonus dice are applied AFTER the character allocates the original 7D. Basically, the character has to be created first THEN bonus dice added, if any.
