Nobles and Rogues:
Carlisle Setting

Setting Overview

The Inner Rim world of Carlisle, the main moon orbiting a massive gas giant in the Carlisle system, has quietly served no one but itself for thousands of years. Outwardly a beacon of peace and civilization, in reality Carlisle a somewhat feudalistic society that has abandoned democracy and reverted to what is perceived to be a more effective government system. A playground for the rich and entitled, Carlisle’s upper crust of society are politicians without peer. Distrustful of strangers, they jealously cling to their land and their privileges, willing to subdue or destroy anyone who challenges them.

"The nobles of Carlisle are an interesting lot, always polite, always respectful, but at any given time thinking on two levels. How they can use you to their advantage, and how could they use you against their enemies."
-- Captain Ron Has’pel, of the trading vessel Bandaler.

"I once saw a pair of young nobles fight a lightfoil duel. After slicing his opponent’s arm off, the winner then proceeded to decapitate him, only moments before I had greeted the man and he had smiled and spoke to me kindly, the transformation of his face from friendly to a killer was shocking. Even more shocking was a week later, I attended the winner’s funeral, they all said the dead boy’s mother, a Countess, was responsible, but did she ever see the light of a prison? Don’t think so."
-- Carlisle citizen.

The Carlisle Setting, run by GM Jon Allen, provides an opportunity for in-depth social roleplaying in the form of the interactions of noble houses.  The central setting, the gas giant Zedalis's central moon of Carlisle, is fully managed by Jon, whereas the other five significant Zedalian moons serve as strongholds for the five Counts of Carlisle, the most powerful nobles in the system after the Duke of Carlisle himself.  Each of the five noble houses are managed by PC leaders, and each of them are recruiting viable characters to swell their ranks in the ongoing game of social brinksmanship that is the mainstay of Carlisle's nobility.
