Mystery Battle Sparks Salvage Standoff
ALARIS II, ALARIS II PRIME: In the wake of a mysterious naval engagement between unknown parties, combat elements of the Holy Ugor Taxation Collection Agency engaged in a violent standoff with the flagship of the Squib Reclamation Fleet several light years outside the Varonat System. The Ugor vessels, arriving shortly after the Squib flagship "Thrifty," attempted to destroy the lighter ship, but sensor logs purchased by INN showed the "Thrifty" ably deflecting incoming fire with tractored wreckage. The standoff lasted roughly five minutes; the Squib vessel sought to claim as much salvage as possible before retreating from heavy fire from three Ugor battlewagons. The battle, which occurred roughly a standard week ago, pitted unknown combatants in a fight to the death. Sensor log analysis shows wreckage from several sizeable warships, including the burned-out hull of a Victory-class Star Destroyer and at least one Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser. The remaining wreckage is fit only for salvage after being picked through by first the Squibs, then the Ugors. The Squibs, native to Skor II, and the Ugors, of the Paradise System, have had numerous run-ins over a long period of time. As the galaxy's premier salvagers, they frequently have worked at opposed ends, and a source with the Squib Reclamation Fleet, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, "Them Ugors attack first, question last, and don't even haggle, you bet!" According to the source, the "Thrifty" is captained by none other than Squib monarch Eebareebaveebeedee. The Varonat System, which lies deep in the Outer Rim along the Ison Corridor, is near Imperial-held space. |
Corellian Trade Spine
The Corellian Trade Spine begins at Corellia in the Core Worlds, then heads Rimward, forming a band of civilization in an arc of the Outer Rim Territories which might otherwise be desolate. Several spurs branch off, such as the Ison Corridor. Business

This spur off of the Corellian Trade Spine passes through Bespin, Anoat, Hoth, and Varonat. Although the New Republic was in power here soon after Endor, the Empire has returned, with Bespin and other worlds falling under the orders of Grand Admiral Thrawn. For what it is worth, the New Republic retains nominal control of Hoth.
Hidden Bases
The remoteness of this area made Hoth a terrible headquarters for the Rebel Alliance. Nevertheless, it is a good place to hide. Isis, for example, is a safeworld and manufacturing base located beyond even Bespin.
